Automated magazine production

BSL publishes a large number of professional magazines in the fields of medical and mental health care.

The articles to be published have fixed structures and, in the interests of parallel web-publication, are offered in XML format.

The challenge
To automate the production of these periodicals in such a way that the time between making the copy available

(XML files) and publication is significantly shortened while retaining complete control for the editorial staff. It concerns processes that are related to the production of pages and communication processes such as file exchange and error reports.

The solution
In the interest of the proof traffic and PDF production, Logic Use implemented an Internet portal for BSL that gave access to a digital workflow involving integrated automatic page generation. After uploading XML files and images, the editorial staff involved receives status information about the processing and can assess the results online.   

The result
Because the page production process is completely automated, the editorial staff receives PDF files directly after uploading the XML files and images. The pages can be checked and, where necessary, the XML files can be corrected immediately.

The input and processing checks integrated into the workflow guarantee a reliable production process and a consistent product.
